De Bofkontjes is a small scale location, situated in primary school de Tarthorst. De Bofkontjes is a “Spelenderwijs” group, that offers half day care for children in the age of 2-4 year old. At de Bofkontjes we offer “Voor en Vroegschoolse Educatie” (VVE, translated as ‘Before and Preschool Education’). We work in a developmental way with the VVE method “Startblokken” (‘building blocks’). With this method we offer children optimal chances to develop themselves.
We are open every morning during the week from 8.00am to 01.00pm. In our nice, spacious and light group there are lots of possibilities to play with all kind of materials in differently arranged corners.
The playground is situated in between the vegetable garden on the square for the four year olds and the playground of the older children of OBS de Tarthorst. Here we have our own playground that is fully equ8ped for children in the age of two to four years old. The spacious playground has a sand pit and lots of room to ride bikes. We also have the possibility to have a picknick at the picknicktable. The garden is filled with peartrees, grass, beech hedges and butterfly bushes.
De Bofkontjes is a toddler group for children in the age of 2 to 4 year old. At de Bofkontjes toddlers can play in the morning during school weeks. Besides free playing we also have shared moments. When we sing or read a book we sit together in a circle on the floor. The children know that such an activity is taking place when the pedagogig staff rings a little bell. After the activity we joint at the table to have a drink and eat some fruit. We take lunch around 11.30.
Besides from playing in and outside at the Bofkontjes, we also make small trips, to do some groceries or visit the library or the forest.
At the Bofkontjes we have four regular pedagogic staff members. Each morning two of them are scheduled. Next to them a third staff member is present during some time to give extra guidance to children with a VVE referral.

We have a general pedagogic policy, which covers the whole organisation; but we also have a specific pedagogic policy for each location (see text cadre above), in which the character of the location is described.

Our pedagogic emphasis relating to the children:
• at de Bofkontjes we work with fixed pedagogic staff at fixed day parts
• we have a fixed schedule and offer structure to the children, to make sure the children feel safe and to give them grip.
• we offer small scale homey care in a nice atmosphere
• we are involved with the children and their family
We work with themes and use the method Startblokken.
Together we create a challenging environment in which each and every child gets the possibility to develop their skills. We produce an environment that meets the desire and curiosity of children to explore, to discover new things and in to understand the world surrounding them.
Language and speech also play an important role in personal development. We always speak clear and correct Dutch to the children. If necessary we repeat sentences, instead of improving them. We also address children in Dutch even if their native language is not Dutch.
We encourage children to undertake things together, such as playing together in the building corner or the house corner.
We learn the children to take into account one another. For instance by sharing toys and by playing together and wait for their turn.
We teach children to solve small conflicts themselves, by stimulating them to tell what they do or do not like. We positively address the children and try to change things that do not go well yet into desirable behaviour.
